Police have charged a man in connection with a stabbing attack on an elderly woman in Brisbane’s east.

The attack happened on the south side of the city on Saturday night.
The woman, a retiree, suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
Police have said the man fled the area but is believed to have returned at about 1:00am on Saturday morning.
Police allege he attempted to stab the woman several times and fled on foot.
The woman was not injured.
The man, who is believed, was described as a thin man of medium build.
